The Art Program of the Department of Fine Arts at Berry College invites applications for a two-year renewable Visiting Assistant Professor in Design to begin in August 2021.

Our small art program with experts in art history, painting/drawing, and ceramics seeks an engaging teacher-artist with expertise in design to join us in teaching, mentoring, and encouraging our community of student artists.

The successful applicant should have an approach to teaching and creative work and research that interests and appeals to undergraduate students from a range of disciplines in a comprehensive college with a liberal-arts foundation. In addition to excellent teaching, collegial service, and creative research, this position requires a willingness to work collaboratively with our three full-time faculty to develop our program and opportunities for students as well as mentor undergraduates in a residential college environment. Primary teaching responsibilities include: Two-Dimensional Design, Digital Imaging (a broad introduction to the software, methods, and applications of computer-based design), Graphic Design I & II, and Web Design I & II. Additional teaching responsibilities include special topics courses in areas such as typography, illustration, digital photography, animation, and the history of design, as well as supporting Survey of Art I & II (a core requirement for the Art major and part of Berry’s Foundations curriculum).

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have earned a Master of Fine Arts in graphic design or related area, have classroom experience as an instructor or teaching assistant, be able to demonstrate a commitment to their research/design practice, and be fluent in course-appropriate applications in the Adobe Creative Cloud. The successful candidate will share our department’s commitment to student engagement inside and outside of the classroom, as well as our interest in promoting opportunities for students from under-represented groups. Berry College is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty, staff, and student body. We welcome applications from all, and strongly encourage women and people of color to apply for this position.
